And just like that another year seemed to woosh by. At the end of each year, my husband and I take stock of what happened in our lives during the past year. Moving to Chicago definitely kept us busy, and caring for our small family remained our priority. So although creating jewelry took a back seat for most of 2018, having a young child guaranteed that creativity continued as a dominant feature in our house.
My daughter and I did many creative activities, many for the first time in our lives. Prepping for her 5th birthday celebrations, we labored over making a unicorn headband (twice, as we lost the first one somewhere between the skating rink and the library), recycled crayons to make unicorn- and heart-shaped crayons, and baked a unicorn cake, a unicorn cupcake cake, as well as multi-colored unicorn cookies:

We also made pompom puppies, weaved potholders, face painted, wrote with chalk pens and created our first “first day of school” chalk board sign, and styled a crazy hair day spider up-do:
When autumn arrived, we baked apple pies and made apple sauce from apples we picked at a local orchard. We etched, we carved and baked the seeds of the same pumpkin we picked at the pumpkin patch.
We also tie-dyed shirts, made our Halloween costumes, made ornaments with perler beads, celebrated our daughter's half birthday, and I created my first beach glass art.
All in all, a pretty creative, enriching and productive 2018.
Although I’m not very good at making New Year’s resolutions, I resolve to learn how to use the sewing machine I recently bought. The glue gun is my best friend when it comes to crafts, but I feel there’s a whole creative world to discover, if only I learn to sew. Of course, 2019 will see me creating more jewelry.
Albert Einstein once said that creativity is intelligence having fun. Go and have some fun in the New Year! Create!
