On 12/13/14 my cousin Grace married her fiancé Michael in a low key wedding at their home. Their reception, on the other hand, took the form of a 300-guest Chinese wedding banquet, complete with 3 different outfits for the bride. Above is one of my favorite photos of the couple. Isn't Grace beautiful?
During the 6 months prior to their wedding, Grace showed me photographs of what she and her bridesmaids would wear, while I worked on jewelry to accessorize the various dresses. While Grace wore a white dress, a light grey dress and a red dress, her bridesmaids wore silk crepe amethyst, the theme color of the wedding.
The challenge with wedding jewelry is to create pieces that do not upstage the dress but rather complement it and to have jewelry that can be worn again, and not necessarily during a formal or dressy event.
I find pearls to be the perfect match for weddings. To me pearls convey elegance and sophistication, yet they can be worn on an everyday basis without becoming pedestrian.
Here are some pieces I created for Grace from which she selected a few to wear, including pieces for her bridesmaids. In the photo above, the earrings are my creation.
