HELLOOOOOOOOO!
During our time in Brazil I spent my time taking care of our young daughter, making new friends, absorbing cultural experiences, and finding inspiration for my jewelry creations. Of course, we seized every opportunity to travel domestically and throughout Latin America. Alas, the many blogs in my mind (about Brazil's golden grass from Jalapão, imperial topaz from Ouro Preto, rhodochrosite found in Argentina, the immense blue agate counter at the Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, pre-Colombian gold, and the list goes on...) went unwritten.
Then we left Brazil at the end of 2017. The company my husband worked for was acquired by a Chicagoland-based company. At the beginning of this year we relocated to Lake Forest, an affluent, intelligent and fashionable (apparently voted best dressed women in America many years by Elle Magazine) community on the shore of Lake Michigan.
Finding my footing in our new home took some time. Imagine leaving the summer of São Paulo and living our first Midwest winter. Our daughter kept asking when we would move to somewhere warmer! We had many challenges with the move. Items damaged while in transit and initial issues with the house we rented left me desperate. Just when we thought were going to settle, we learned we were to move to Gothenburg, Sweden this past September. (It didn't happen, and I could breathe).
All this to say, it took twice as long to feel settled in Chicago's North Shore as it took us in Brazil. By the time June rolled around we started feeling more settled, and summer was magnificent...ly hot, hot, hot, but fun, fun, fun. We enjoyed days at the beach and in the city. We relished picnicking at the music festival Ravinia and at the Chicago Botanic Garden, both just minutes from our home. Surrounded by forests and prairies, lakes, ponds and lots of wildlife, we delighted in animal sightings and admired the landscape's constant color changes with different flowers blooming throughout summer. We could say that we fell in love with where we live...
...and autumn arrived. In October the deciduous trees turned sublime shades of yellow, orange and red, and for the first time since moving here, I found myself with time to create jewelry again. I pulled out garnet, citrine and lemon quartz to mimic nature's beauty. Here are the pieces:
