Days of summer are here, and living in Santa Barbara means lots of sun and sand. Our go-to spot is Arroyo Burro Beach, also known as Hendry's Beach. It's close to home, and the Boathouse restaurant serves a terrific punch.
We take our out-of-town friends there. We have good memories of this beach, like the time I had my sister's kids for a weekend and like the day my labor started. We've seen a diversity of birds in the estuary, dolphins doing acrobatics close to shore and fox climbing the hills above the beach. We've also seen spectacular sunsets here.
We're happy to share this beach now with Jade, who loves running around on the sand and seeing all the birds and the dogs, 2 words she's able to sign, although she does not differentiate between bird, airplane or helicopter!

As a long-time beachcomber, it's fun to find pretty shells and discover a sand dollar or bits of driftwood, which I use with photographing my jewelry creations. So, of course, I was pleased to stumble upon a piece of sea glass on Hendry's during one of my walks. With a little gold-filled wire, it is now a pendant. I can now wear a little bit of Hendry's Beach wherever I go.
