Mother's Day is around the corner, and this year it is bittersweet. I am reminded that Mom is not with us to celebrate Jade's first birthday and the one-year anniversary of me becoming a mother. Yet so much of Mom lives on through me, and I hope to share her memory with her granddaughter, as she grows.
One summer as a teen, I took figure drawing classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Looking back, I'm surprised my parents supported it. They did not discourage my artistic pursuits, but they did not wish for me to become, as they called it, "a starving artist", and to my recollection, they never commented on my drawings.
Here are some 30-second sketches I did.

After Mom passed away, I came across a workbook, containing her fashion design homework when she was young. I was blown away by her talent. She was far better than I ever was at drawing! And I never knew!!!
Here is her work.

Although I do not draw much anymore, I sometimes sketch jewelry designs for clients to hash out ideas. Mostly I work organically with metal and stones.
My 14-year old cousin, also from the Lee family, is part of the next generation talented in the field of drawing.
Here are her anime figures.

Will Jade have any skills in drawing? They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
